mile from shore, just outside the third reef line. The 175-foot Coast
Guard buoy tender Hollyhock was sunk in February, 20 1990 in memory of
Capt DAN GARNSEY, a long time Broward County resident and owner of the
drift fishing boat Helen S. Garnsey died in the year Captain Dan was
placed on the bottom. This ship spend most of her 53 years career as the
Coast Guard buoy tender Hollyhock. The sinking was delayed for more than a
month because, ironically, the high seas caused by January storms were too
rough to sink a ship. The wreck still completely but it is inundated with more than eight years growth. This growth was accelerate by the almost constant current that flows around it. The former U.S. Coast Guard vessel and treasure hunter has rapidly developed into an underwater treasure of its own. The wreck emerges into view as divers descend just a few feet from the surface. Visibility at the site averages 50 to 75 feet, although there are days when it is so good the entire wreck can be distinguished at one glance. Captain Dan has been prepared with large access holes between the forepeak, cargo hold and engine room, providing certified wreck divers easy opportunity for penetration. It is definitely a jewel of Florida's ''Wreck Alley''. She lies upright in 110 feet of water in the rodeo reef site. This intact wreck is a great dive. Her wheelhouse is 70 feet below the surface. |

costa, apenas saliendo de la tercer linea de arrecife. El guardacostas de
175 pies Hollyhock dedicado al la atencion de las boyas fue hundido
el 20 de Febrero de 1990 en memoria del capitan DAN GARNSEY, Un antiguo
residente del condado de Broward y dueño del basco de pesca en corriente Helen S. Garnsey
murio en el mismo año que el Captain Dan fue fondeado. Este barco
dedico la mayor parte de sus 53 años de carrera cuidando de las boyas. El
hundimiento fue demorado por mas de un mes porque, ironicamente, las
mareas causadas por las tormentas de enero fueron demasiado fuertes como
para hundirlo.
Este naufragio permanece completo pero esta inundado con mas de ocho años de vida coralina. El crecimiento coralino fue acelerado por el casi constante flujo de corrientes por sus alrededores. El ex U.S. Coast Guard y cazador de tesoros rapidamente se volvio por si mismo en un tesoro submarino. El naufragio empieza a ser visto por los buceadores cuando descienden a unos pocos metros de la superficie. La visibilidad en el sitio varia en promedio entre 15 y 23m, aunque hay dias en que la visibilidad es tan buena que se puede ver todo el naufragio. Captain Dan fue preparado con grandes hoyos entre la proa, la bodega de carga y la sala de máquinas, proporcionando a los buzos certificados en naufragios una oportunidad facil para la penetracion. Este es definitivamente la joya de la "calle de los naufragios"de florida. Esta vertical en 34m de profundidad en el sitio del arrecife Rodeo. Este naufragio intacto es un grandioso buceo. El puente esta a 21m de la superficie. |
